For New York State artists free103point9 is pleased to announce the 2009 Distribution Grant for New York State Artists providing support for the distribution of new works in film, video, sound, new-media, and media-installation. This grant is for completed works only. Funding is available from free103point9 through a regrant from New York State Council on the Arts' Electronic Media and Film Program. Seminars about the grant in NYC Nov. 13 at Electronic Arts Intermix (with live and archived web stream) and Dec. 4 in Catskill, NY at the Greene County Council for the Arts. |

Since May 2005, the New York Society for Acoustic Ecology (NYSAE) has presented Giant Ear))) at 7 p.m. each Sunday on free103point9 Online Radio, webcasting field recordings, interviews, and compositions by sound artists. "Inside/Out NYC" presents New York City sound works culled from approximently two years of Giant Ear))) shows. Members Andrea Callard, Jonny Farrow, Edmund Mooney, Andrea Polli, and Andrea Williams produced this CD. Marc Foxman, David Watson, Michelle Nagai, Ben Owen, and Geoff Dugan also appear on the CD. |
FEATURED PROJECTNew FM radio station
Community radio station for Greene and Columbia counties in NY free103point9 recently won a license for a 3,300-watt community radio station on 90.7-FM. The new station will feature community access to the airwaves on weekdays and Sundays, with shows about topics such as the arts, schools, seniors, the environment, hunting, agriculture, and news. Evenings will feature DJs mixing in webcasts live from local town meetings, high school sports championships, performances, lectures, workshops, and other events from upstate venues. Late nights and Saturdays, the station will feature radio art, and other experimental sounds. FEATURED WEBSTREAMDecember Sunwatch
Dec. 1, 2008-Jan. 1, 2009, noon EST (-5 GMT) December Sunwatch is an online radio event, part of Brenda Hutchinson's "dailybell2008," a yearlong project dedicated to the observation of the sun every time it crosses the horizon and to sharing the awareness of that moment with others. Hutchinson began the project on New Year's Eve 2007. To celebrate the last month of the project for this year she has invited 30 people from all over the world to choose one day to observe and document a sunrise or sunset. The invitation is open-ended and responses could range from poetry and performance to recordings of local soundscapes. free103point9 will broadcast a different piece each day at noon EST (-5 GMT) from places throughout the US and Canada as well as from Europe, Korea, and Nepal. |

free103point9's latest Dispatch Series titles include Radio Action III from the free103point9 transmission artists, and Evidence's Receiver. Radio Action III (free103point9 Audio Dispatch 034) features five-minute sounds works conceptually tied to 'radio' as instrument or theme, composed by free103point9 Transmission Artists working in collaborative teams. The Dust Dive team with Latitude/Longitude, and Scanner, Anna Friz, Michelle Nagai, LoVid, Ben Owen, Radio Ruido, and others contribute to this CD. Evidence (Stephan Moore and Scott Smallwood) created their new CD "Receiver" (free103point9 Audio Dispatch 035) through a 2007 residency at Wave Farm, where they broadcast a performance on several adjacent frequencies. |
