DescriptionThe idea for this series of interviews came from the need to compile an oral history of
AICA/USA the acronym for Association Internationale des Critiques d'Art, of which the USA is one of many, many sections worldwide.
As historians as well as members of the board of this organization, Josephine Gear and Michele Cone undertook to search for the first presidents of the organization willing to talk to them. They discussed their experiences during their tenure, as well as their views on the art world of their time. To complete the project they interviewed the current president also so as to get some perspective from the past to the present.

Interviewers:
Michele C. Cone developed her interviewing skills in the course of doing research on artists and dealers active during the Vichy era in France for her book Artists under Vichy. She currently writes for artnet.com and teaches at the School of Visual Arts.
Josephine Gear familiarized herself with the interview format when she met with American combat artists of World War II for research on her forthcoming book on the subject. She teaches in the Program in Museum Studies at New York University.
