François K recently recorded these dance sets during his weekly dub-centric parties at the Cielo Club in New York, where he created his Deep Space nights in April, 2003. The format, captured on his compilation CD, "Deep Space NYC," Volume I (available from his Wave Music label) is extremely eclectic, ranging from spaced-out techno to the deepest reggae, hip-hop, house and disco and includes several of his own productions with Jamaican dub legends Mutabaruka and U-Roy.
François K has a storied history as a New York club deejay, and as a remixer and producer. In the great days of disco, he filled guest DJ spots at such legendary clubs as the Paradise Garage, the Loft, Studio 54, Buttermilk Bottom, AM-PM and Les Mouches. As a remixer, he has collaborated with recording artists such as disparate as Eurhythmics, Diana Ross, U2, Kraftwerk (he mixed their 1986 studio album, "Electric Café"), Mick Jagger, Ashford & Simpson, The Cure, Midnight Oil, Jimmy Cliff, Foreigner, the Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode. In 1996, he and his partner John Davis started one of New York's most revered weekly parties, Body and Soul, a spiritual mix of dance music grooves that led to a popular compilation series of the same name.
Tired of that pumping, thumping, hammering sound of mainstream dance beats? Danny Krivit is your man! This 30-year veteran of the club scene has a hypnotic and inviting style and, with Francois K & Joe Clausell, was one of the deejays behind New York's legendary Body & Soul parties of the late 1990s. The 718 Sessions comprise Krivit's new monthly party endeavor, currently taking place at Club Deep - email him at

Over a decade ago Pete Lawrence and his partner Katrina had the profound thought to create an alternative event to the boom boom club music and instead feature all the great chill music. It started out in an old church where they threw down pillows and cushions to best enjoy the aural tapestry of chill tunes. It eventually developed into one of the premiere festivals taking place annually in the UK. The festival is different things to different people. In their words, "Some use it to see as many great live bands and DJs as they can. Some concentrate on the visual art. Some like to dance the weekend away in the Club Tent. Some people hang around their tents enjoying sunshine, barbeques and the company of friends old and new. Most people will do a bit everything, but the joy of it is that you can do whatever you like, and take in as much or as little as you want. These are the options..." The 2006 Big Chill Festival takes place at Eastnor Castle Deer Park, UK from August 4-6. For more info go to bigchill.net.
Our thanks to Ubiquity Records for this radio mix produced by Shawn Lee in support of his 2006 release, Strings & Things. Shawn brings together vintage library records, jazz, rare groove, big band, psychedelia, and his own productions (including his remix of The Beatles' Because) and cuts them up into an old-time radio show with samples, movie clips, and more. Detroit-based DJ Minx founded the record label
Women on Wax (W.O.W.), as an all-female deejay collective. Now the label's "Find a Way," featuring Diviniti, has been picked up for distribution by King Street records, with a new Danny Krivit remix that is making waves in the dance music community. Minx actually started out as an on-air host for radio shows in Detroit and Windsor, Canada. They included the now much-lamented Deep Space Radio, with techno legends Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May and Juan Atkins. Her deejay credits also include a residency at the renowned Club Motor City. Soon she'll be stepping back into the world of Windsor radio, but not before Richie Hawtin's Minus label puts out her new release, while WOW will also release two new EPs this winter.
This mix from Mousse T. offers up a funky good listening time. He takes you on a journey through all sorts of fabulous tunes in a very refreshing mix that stands out from the norm. Mousse T. is one funky german based producer having produced Bootsy Collins and other funk pioneer heros. His album "Gourmet de Funk" released several years ago was a true feast for the ears and booty (shakin') and is absolutely a timeless masterpiece and testament to the roots of funk. The ingredients of his sound sets him apart from the DJ pack mixing up fresh funk and soul tunes, as well as, classics re-created for the big house music fans.
Mousse T. has just finished his remix of "The Beat Goes On" due to be released on the forthcoming Bob Sinclar album in May. He has a new fresh underground production for Peppermint Jam Records, his record label, to celebrate the 100th vinyl release. Besides his production activities he is still playing a lot of Live and DJ gigs. He's performing in Berlin live on the 2007 ECHO Awards, which is the biggest german music award show. Together with Yvonne Catterfeld they'll present her new single "Die Zeit ist reif" that he produced.
Chicago "house" legend Mystic Bill rocks the whole house for your ears only, even though he actually put together this mix during a live set at Control, a crowded Dallas, Texas club, where he showed some of what the Midwest is made of. This veteran DJ, who has been spinning non-stop since the early days of warehouse and loft parties, is as hot as ever.
Nickodemus has a resume to envy. After holding down residencies at Giant Step and Organic Grooves, he teamed up with DJ partner Mariano in 1998 to create Turntables on the Hudson and a series of compilation cds under the same name that capture the vibe and include some of Nickodemus' own productions. Recently he started Wonderwheel Recordings (after the Coney Island thrill ride), mixing electronic samples with gypsy music from Eastern Europe, North Africa and southern Italy and Sicily. "Coney Island Love," the first Wonderwheel compilation, was released in November, 2004.

Salvatore Principato is best-known as the vocalist and percussionist for the seminal minimalist-funk band Liquid Liquid.
He began his entertainment career in San Francisco in the late 1970s, performing
spoken word, composing songs, and creating short films before moving to New York
in 1979 to help form Liquid Liquid. In recent years, Principato has produced many words-and-music events in New York City with a focus on Caribbean and African sounds. He has emerged as an internationally acclaimed DJ, and continued his musical endevours, including recordings and sold-out concerts with the reunited Liquid Liquid. He was invited to participate in Rome for the 2004 Red Bull Music Academy sessions where DJs and music producers from diverse musical and cultural backgrounds exchange ideas about music and the music industry. For WPS1 Principato spun a musical mix drawing the connection between international root and contemporary dance favorites, stopping along the way to rock, sway and swoon.
Qool Marv caught the attention of the UK label Grand Central Records, after making a long-lasting impression on the New York club scene. He also did the spinning for Prince during a hiatus from performing that ended only recently with the star's "Wear Something Purple" tour. Now Grand Central has released "Grand Central Translation," Qool Marv's first mixed CD. This live set was recorded May 8, 2004 at Marv's "Buttamilk Party," at the Roadhouse in Manchester, England.
Together with DJ Alex and Cedric Woo, John Ramar is a member of the East London
Voices Collective, which
features a soul-centered, disco-inspired electronic dance music.
