We present a steaming 'stimming' Debut DJ Session for Art Radio featuring
Martin Stimming aka 'Stimming', on the cusp of his first EP release with
Buzzin' Fly (http://www.buzzinfly.com) Records, Ben Watt's label. Born
in Giessen, Germany, he played various instruments like violin, piano and drums
at the age of 10. 5 years later he delved into electronic music with DJ Krush and
Grooverider providing his introduction into this new electronic sound dimension
which than led to Stimming delving into techno. At this time he was living in Butzbach, a small town near Frankfurt – influenced very much from Chris Liebing and Sven Vaeth, starting to djing and buying vinyl. He soon realized that for him making
music was more fullfilling than "just" playing a groove, or mixing a record, so he started to take his production seriously as music had become the most important thing in his life.
For 2 years, he was the producer part of the Gebrueder Ton, and in
this time he befriended Diynamic (a record label from Solomun and
Adriano). Stimming's debut on Diynamic was Diynamic 006 Feuervogel
EP, which he produces together with Solomun. The Diynamic 008 was his
first solo artist vinyl. There is plenty more to come, from this talented young producer."

Beat Pharmacy, that is, Brendon Moeller, is a man influenced by the Orb and Future Sounds of London having found these unique artists of the early 90's while residing in his native South Africa where he worked as a school teacher with kids affected by the war and strife South Africa faced during apartheid. He converses on his journey and drive to produce his own unique sound on the 'dub leaning end of the musical spectrum. His unique production style got him attention from Francois K and Francois' Deep Space party devoted to all things in the 'key of dub', where he's a regular guest dj, and where you'll find his first two full length albums have been released. Brendon's also released many limited edition 45's and 12" vinyl platters making him a main stay in the DJ and dub lover scene.
Andre is one-half of the RonDre team.
Jeannie Hopper,
WPS1 DJ Curator of this 12 hour marathon, started off with Andre taking over the decks at the 3 hour mark. Andre spins all over the lower eastside and east village with tag team partner DJ Roni aka Soul Brother No. 4. Together they make up the RonDre team. Andre throws in some dub, broken beat, classics including the yummy "Love Dancing", funk, soul and some sassy 'art band' action from newcomers Kudu. The night was total madness with over 500 people spilling out into the street with New York's finest boys in blue and red (lovely light show from the fire trucks) making appearances and a finale with the artists all taking a dip in the east river. Check out the other dj's from this memorable night including: DJ Jeannie Hopper, DJ Soul Brother #4, DJ Stefny and DJ Rubi as sets get added to the archives here.
WPS1's DJ curator and
radio lady kicked off the live marathon with an eclectic funky set featuring a plethora of classics including Cymande's "BRA", Herbie Hancock "Mega-Mix" by Grandmixer D. St. featuring music from Hancock's "Future Shock", Liquid Liquid's "Scraper", Santana's "Waiting", Nina Simone's "Funkier Than a Mosquito's Tweeter", and a remake of the Art Ensemble of Chicago's "Theme De YoYo" by Su Paka Poo. The lovely remake by Ashley Beedel and remix by Kenny Dope of "Season of the Witch" turned folks into train spotters askin' 'what is that?'. Jenny Devivo's vocal style really makes this a super number released many moons ago on the audiophile label "Afro-Art". The night progresses into total madness with over 500 people spilling out into the street with New York's finest boys in blue and red making appearances and a finale with the artists all taking a dip in the east river. Roni aka Soul Brother No. 4 brings a lovely eclectic mix with dub to rock to electronic rhythms that are, but of course, soulful comin' from this brother. Upon DJing loads with DJ Andre at their long running Community party on the lower east side, NYC, peeps started calling them collectively RonDre. You can catch Roni multi-tasking at Nublu as DJ and Soul Bartender No. 1.
Roni took over the decks at the half way point in this 12-hour marathon musically curated by Jeannie Hopper (Liquid Sound Lounge) of WPS1. As the wild night progressed people got sloppy, even kicking out the line to the broadcast stream and recorder... so unfortunately we only caught half of the magic of Roni's solo set. But there's more to come from this Soul Brother No. 4 (featured in the Finale when all the dj's tag teamed to the break of dawn). Check out the other dj's from this memorable night including: DJ Jeannie Hopper, DJ Roni, DJ Stefny and DJ Rubi as sets get added to the archives here. The event was produced in its entirety by Jan Larsen of Jan Larsen Art who is Art Brother No. 1 at theXpo gallerie. Don't miss the next opening as part of the DUMBO Arts Festival on October 14, 2005. (30 minutes)

Stefny throws down a fabulous multi-stylin' house set just in time for the lovely light show provided by the New Yorks finest, the fire department. Things got pretty crazy that night! --a sound technician who had long been involved with the post-punk art and club world-- The Departure Lounge was originally intended as a freeform outlet for partners' more purely creative record-spinning interests,
without regard to such dance floor conventions as familiarity, stylistic consistency, or even danceability. The primary immediate objective of The Departure Lounge was to take what was usually considered back-room, background music (or completely unsuitable for play in any club at all) and place it squarely in the spotlight, and in your face. In short, the idea was to create an environment where it seemed entirely possible that one could, in the words of the club's motto, "hear every record ever made." The result was admittedly sometimes messy, cacophonous, self-indulgent, and even downright ludicrous, but never boring or predictable.
Other features included the Public-Access Turntable, a record player set out in the middle of the room and patched into the DJ booth and main sound system for audience members to join in on (a handful of records whose labels had
been removed to add the element of surprise); and Dueling DJs, in which two DJ booths were set up in the same room, allowing the main DJs and their guests to
either jam with each other like a jazz band or duke it out sonically like pro wrestlers.
New York's "unofficial ambassador of sound" Emskee

As the headline DJ on WBAI-FM's "Underground Railroad" and host of the "Rare Radio Show," Emskee has amassed a devoted following at clubs and party engagements throughout Manhattan. Just back from gigs that took from Las Vegas and Aspen to Florida, he is currently the resident Tuesday-night DJ at Union Square's hotspot Coffee Shop.
Based in the heart of beat culture San Francisco, Garth juggles roles as DJ, producer, remixer and director of his own label, Grayhound Recordings. He maintains a busy worldwide tour schedule and continues to represent Wicked which retains its relevance as America's reknowned longstanding DJ crew.
Garth is a name that carries weight far beyond the west coast he calls home. Growing up with a passion for punk, funk and soul music in England and America, he was the first of the notorious Wicked crew to move from London and set up camp in San Francisco. Inspired by the Bay Area way of life he instigated the Crew's legendary full moon parties. Garth co-founded Wicked in 1991 an event that is widely recognized as the catalyst that helped put San Francisco on the global dance map. Look out for the retrospective collection capturing the memorable tunes at the full moon parties entitled Full Moon Classics to be released on Om records this summer, 2005.
