The lovely remake by Ashley Beedel and remix by Kenny Dope of "Season of the Witch" turned folks into train spotters askin' 'what is that?'. Jenny Devivo's vocal style really makes this a super number released many moons ago on the audiophile label "Afro-Art". The night progresses into total madness with over 500 people spilling out into the street with New York's finest boys in blue and red making appearances and a finale with the artists all taking a dip in the east river. - listen | listen with RealPlayer
First broadcast October 10, 2005

Roni aka Soul Brother No. 4 brings a lovely eclectic mix with dub to rock to electronic rhythms that are, but of course, soulful comin' from this brother. Upon DJing loads with DJ Andre at their long running Community party on the lower east side, NYC, peeps started calling them collectively RonDre. You can catch Roni multi-tasking at Nublu as DJ and Soul Bartender No. 1.

Roni took over the decks at the half way point in this 12-hour marathon musically curated by Jeannie Hopper (Liquid Sound Lounge) of WPS1. As the wild night progressed people got sloppy, even kicking out the line to the broadcast stream and recorder... so unfortunately we only caught half of the magic of Roni's solo set. But there's more to come from this Soul Brother No. 4 (featured in the Finale when all the dj's tag teamed to the break of dawn). Check out the other dj's from this memorable night including: DJ Jeannie Hopper, DJ Roni, DJ Stefny and DJ Rubi as sets get added to the archives here. The event was produced in its entirety by Jan Larsen of Jan Larsen Art who is Art Brother No. 1 at theXpo gallerie. Don't miss the next opening as part of the DUMBO Arts Festival on October 14, 2005. Departure Lounge - listen | listen with RealPlayer
First broadcast March 14, 2005

Started by New York club DJs John Hall and Adam Goldstone, and Perry Brandston --a sound technician who had long been involved with the post-punk art and club world-- The Departure Lounge was originally intended as a freeform outlet for partners' more purely creative record-spinning interests, without regard to such dance floor conventions as familiarity, stylistic consistency, or even danceability. The primary immediate objective of The Departure Lounge was to take what was usually considered back-room, background music (or completely unsuitable for play in any club at all) and place it squarely in the spotlight, and in your face. In short, the idea was to create an environment where it seemed entirely possible that one could, in the words of the club's motto, "hear every record ever made." The result was admittedly sometimes messy, cacophonous, self-indulgent, and even downright ludicrous, but never boring or predictable.

Other features included the Public-Access Turntable, a record player set out in the middle of the room and patched into the DJ booth and main sound system for audience members to join in on (a handful of records whose labels had been removed to add the element of surprise); and Dueling DJs, in which two DJ booths were set up in the same room, allowing the main DJs and their guests to either jam with each other like a jazz band or duke it out sonically like pro wrestlers.

First broadcast February 7/28, 2005

Francois K recently recorded these dance sets during his weekly dub-centric parties at the Cielo Club in New York, where he created his Deep Space nights in April, 2003. The format, captured on his compilation CD, "Deep Space NYC," Volume I (available from his Wave Music label) is extremely eclectic, ranging from spaced-out techno to the deepest reggae, hip-hop, house and disco and includes several of his own productions with Jamaican dub legends Mutabaruka and U-Roy.

Francois K has a storied history as a New York club deejay, and as a remixer and producer. In the great days of disco, he filled guest DJ spots at such legendary clubs as the Paradise Garage, the Loft, Studio 54, Buttermilk Bottom, AM-PM and Les Mouches. As a remixer, he has collaborated with recording artists such as disparate as Eurhythmics, Diana Ross, U2, Kraftwerk (he mixed their 1986 studio album, "Electric Café"), Mick Jagger, Ashford & Simpson, The Cure, Midnight Oil, Jimmy Cliff, Foreigner, the Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode. In 1996, he and his partner John Davis started one of New York's most revered weekly parties, Body and Soul, a spiritual mix of dance music grooves that led to a popular compilation series of the same name.

Chill Mix: Pete Lawrence of The Big Chill Festival, UK - listen | listen with RealPlayer

Over a decade ago Pete Lawrence and his partner Katrina had the profound thought to create an alternative event to the boom boom club music and instead feature all the great chill music. It started out in an old church where they threw down pillows and cushions to best enjoy the aural tapestry of chill tunes. It eventually developed into one of the premiere festivals taking place annually in the UK. The festival is different things to different people. In their words, "Some use it to see as many great live bands and DJs as they can. Some concentrate on the visual art. Some like to dance the weekend away in the Club Tent. Some people hang around their tents enjoying sunshine, barbeques and the company of friends old and new. Most people will do a bit everything, but the joy of it is that you can do whatever you like, and take in as much or as little as you want. These are the options..." The 2006 Big Chill Festival takes place at Eastnor Castle Deer Park, UK from August 4-6. For more info go to bigchill.net.

Roni's got a nice eclectic vibe pullin' classics from many genres. Roni occasionally hits the decks at Nublu and plays a duel role as Soul Bartender No. 1. He is Jeannie Hopper's favorite bartender... but of course, as he's generous with Hopper's favorite beverage, Tequila. Roni's also an amazing artist. You can find his original one-of-a-kind wears on the lower east side at the Art Fiend, a community based store filled with a collective of artist's wares, on Ludlow off of Delancey. Art Fiend heads to Kyoto, Japan with a opening on December 4, 2005 at the Kyoto University Gallery. He's as of late into T-Shirt printing, jewelry, wrist bands, belts & bags. Check out his partner and him in DJ crime as they hit the decks for a new Monday weekly party at The Porch on Avenue C between 7th & 8th streets. (61 minutes)

After moving to NYC several years ago he started the groundbreaking band A.R.E. A Touch of Class - listen | listen with RealPlayer
First broadcast April 16, 2007

Oliver Stumm and Domie Clausen form the NYC-based production and DJ duo A Touch Of Class (ATOC). They founded A Touch Of Class Recordings in 1999 as a platform to release their own music material as well as help launch other acts. ATOC fit style-wise somewhere between Electro/Disco and Dance Rock, combining real instruments with electronics. They have delivered an impressive roster of production work and have had numerous chart toppers in the U.K., including Scissor Sisters' Comfortably Numb and Filthy Gorgeous, The Ones' Flawless, and Xavier's Give Me The Night. They are known for both discovering the then unknown Scissor Sisters as well as producing and releasing the band's first few singles before signing them to a major label. ATOC have remixed artists such as The Gossip, Le Tigre, A.R.E. Weapons, Erasure, et al. to high reviews and DJ play. Their work is best heard on their critically acclaimed 2003 retrospective A Touch Of Class Sucks! and the 2007 follow up A Touch Of Class Still Sucks!.
